A new smart ticketing system has been launched by the Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC).
The GO card is a pre-paid, re-usable smart card aimed at making the public transport easier and more convenient to use.
“Smart ticketing is a vital component of this project and crucial in elevating Bahrain’s public transport system, and enhancing passenger journeys,” said BPTC director Mark Kipling.
“GO cards are a cheaper, user-friendly alternative to paper tickets and we have made sure they are easily accessible to all passengers across all sectors.
“The purpose of the GO card is to facilitate seamless, hassle-free movement across the network at competitive rates, giving customers the option to buy and store credit for flexible journey use.”
The GO card initially costs 500 fils and can be pre-charged with up to BD50.
Top-ups are available from all bus drivers and can also be loaded at all main bus terminals.
The card’s launch coincides with the full implementation of the new public transport network tomorrow, which is set to cover 77 per cent of Bahrain with 32 routes.
